Lainie is another foster-that-came-to-stay. Just like Trinity before her, Lainie came to me in May 2005, through American Belgian Malinois Club (ABMC) Rescue, and was just here to be fostered until she was adopted. (Yeah, right. ;-)
Lainie’s background, as I understand it, was that she was dropped off with a litter of pups at the home of someone known to own Malinois. She was adopted through the ABMC Rescue program, but was returned to Rescue because her owner had been called up to duty in Iraq and didn’t know when he would return. God Bless our troops and the many sacrifices they make in service to our country!!!
In less than 30 minutes of her arrival at my house, Lainie had made herself at home. She met the rest of the dogs outside and set her place within the pack. Then we went inside, and she made her place in the middle of my bed :~}
I have never seen a dog fit into an existing pack situation so quickly and easily. The other dogs tend to dominate Trinity, who is quite submissive to them; however, Lainie plays with her as an equal. She plays with Spirit, Quest, and Justice as rough as they like, yet, at the same time doesn’t put up with any nonsense from them, either. That, in my mind, makes her worth her weight in gold!
Conversely, she likes nothing more than mothering the other dogs. She loves to wash their faces--and they will line up for the privilege.
Oh well, I guess I’m not meant to be a foster mom...
