When Kelley told me about her planned Run for the Roses litter, I was really tempted, but was not ready to add another puppy to the family. Am I ever glad she talked me into it! What a nice litter!
All the pups were so wonderful that my favorite changed from week to week, but Kelley chose the perfect puppy for me. Blue Boy, now Quest, is such an awesome lil’ guy that he defies description. Quest’s future includes conformation, obedience, agility, and herding.
I’m extremely pleased to be working with Kelley--not only through our co-ownership of Quest, but also our co-bred Genesis-BasqueLaine Justice litter, born July 2006. (See the Litters/Puppies page for more information.) Kelley has been a wonderful mentor and a tremendous friend, who has changed my life for the better.
In October 2006, about a week after his first birthday, I took Quest to a herding workshop. There were only three of us there in addition to the instructor (Mary Lee) and one of her regular students who was assisting her (Stacie). Both Mary Lee and Stacie were very impressed with him—and I should mention that both of them are primarily Border Collie & Aussie people. Stacie kept repeating, “I like this dog. I really LIKE this dog.” They liked his personality, his attitude and his working ability. When we first let him go, he was circling, but then he sliced and split the sheep, and the look on his face was priceless. Even though he wasn’t sure exactly what we were doing, he knew that something wasn’t right about the flock being separated. After we’d been out there a little while, I actually saw his “light bulb” moment—I could see in his eyes that he “got” it. It was an amazing feeling!
November 2007 brought some extremely disappointing news. Though he passed his OFA elbows, his hips were diagnosed bilateral mild dysplasia. Thus, future breeding plans for Quest have been cancelled.
