Trinity came to me in December 2002, through American Belgian Malinois Club (ABMC) Rescue. She was just here to be fostered until she was adopted. (Yeah, right. ;-)
Her initial foster mom told me that Trini weighed about 25 pounds when she first arrived there. I got her a week later, and she was up to 38 pounds. Although my vet said that she was not emaciated, she was most definitely underweight. Her ribs were visible, and when she was being petted, your hand would bump along her ribs.
Trinity is one of those dogs who can melt your heart with her sweet Belgian smile. I wanted to keep her, but I knew that she would make someone such a great pet that it didn’t seem fair to keep her to myself.
But I absolutely lost my heart to this dog, and she’s here to stay.
Because she loves people so much, she is a little exuberant when meeting new friends. However, she was extremely gentle and protective of my friend’s 7-year-old niece, Heather, when she came to visit. Trinity put herself between Heather and the other dogs so that they wouldn’t jump on her or run into her and knock her down. I was both surprised and pleased by her behavior.
Since then, she has been to Epworth Preschool/Daycare to help the children learn to be safe around dogs, and she was very good with the children. I was so proud of her!
Although Trini has lots of energy and play drive, she is also content to lay by my chair when I’m working on the computer. Neither an August 2007 back injury nor a 2009 ear hematoma, resulting in a "crumpled" ear, has slowed her down a whole lot, and she continues to be a sweet, happy girl that steals the heart of anyone she meets.
